Distance Knitting

Welcome

What's new?

Entrelac ScarfIn 2013 I have been booked to teach workshops and short classes at a number of yarn shops including Liss Wools, Liss, The Knitting Habit, Alton, and Pack Lane Wool, Basingstoke. Details of all the workshops and classes and how to book can be found on the Events page.

Last September one of the residential colleges I used to teach at, Urchfont Manor, was closed so I have now found a couple of other residential venues to continue these classes. One is The Ammerdown Centre near Bath and the other is Dillington House, Illminster. I am still continuing to teach at Alston Hall near Preston in Lancashire.

Diamond ShawlI have been invited back for a 4th year to teach on the French Treats Knitting Holidays. The knitting holidays are held at Le Vieux Monastere which is set in the lovely surroundings of south west France and is a great place to teach groups of enthusiastic knitters. During the week we well be enjoying excursions to a number of interesting places in the area and in the workshops we will be looking at lace shawl knitting, Fair Isle and steeks (including a pattern for a beret and a coffee pot cover), 'Knit 1 Below' and Brioche (including a pattern for mittens) and Entrelac (including knitting in the round). There are two opportunites to take the holiday, the 2nd to 9th June 2013 and 15th to 22nd of September 2013.

I am in the process of updating this website. The 'Patterns' page now shows the free patterns I offer and on their individual pages is a link to download the pattern as a PDF file. There are also links to the Hand Knitting Patterns page and the Machine Knitting Patterns Page (currently still under construction). As well as adding more of my patterns to these pages I am hoping to also provide a link to purchase the patterns directly through my Ravelry store. Quite a few patterns are already available for immediate purchase from my Ravelry Store although not all the patterns shown on this website are available in the store yet.

As well as developing my own patterns I am continuing to write for 'Knitting' Magazine, 'The Knitter', 'Simply Knitting' and 'Yarnwise'. I have had a number of patterns and articles published in these magazines over the years.

Wishbone NecklaceI continue to develop new workshops and talks for both hand and machine knititng. Some of the latest hand knitting workshops include 'Knitting with Beads and Wire', 'Knitting Jewellery' and 'Entrelac' and I an offering a new machine knitting talk called 'Pattern Play' The 'Talks' and 'Workshop' pages list most the talks and workshops I currently offer. If there is any knitting technique or skill in particular that your group would be interested in please contact me to discuss alternative workshops or talks.

Courses

Hand Knitting

The City and Guilds 7716-15 Level 2 and 7716-16 Level 3 Certificates in Hand Knit Textiles are available as distance learning options. The distance learning course can be started at any time. For more information about these courses see the C&G 7716-15 and C&G 7716-16 pages.

Machine Knitting

Crossover topThe City and Guilds have changed the machine knitting course. For a number of reasons that I will not go into now I have taken the decision to stop offering the City and Guilds course in Machine Knit Textiles. However I am aware that knitters do still want to learn about design and improve their knitting skills so I am in the process of developing my own course (based on the City and Guilds course) which will be offered as a 'Designer Knitters' course. I am also working on a 'Master Knitters' course which will focuse mainly on knitting skills rather than knitting and design skills. I will post more information when the courses are avaiable.

Workshops

For more information about all the workshops I have been booked to teach this year please see the Events page of this website.
