Creative Studies Certificate
This course is divided into 6 modules. Within each module there are a number of exercises to be completed for art/design, knitting and background knowledge. All the exercises in each module should be completed before the module is returned for assessment. All six modules must be completed to achieve the full 7922 Certificate.
Module 1
- Design section covers 'Line' and explores Line using a number of design techniques.
- Knitting section covers welts, hems, decorative edges, stocking stitch variations and cables.
- General section covers tools, equipment and their safe use and storage, and collecting information on a number of different fibres.
Module 2
- Design section covers 'Colour and explores Colour using a number of design techniques as well as covering colour theory.
- Knitting section covers increases and decreases, partial knitting shaping, tension swatches, test swatches, buttonholes and fastening, and blocking and pressing.
- General section covers the Basic Block and alterations to the basic block.
Module 3
- Design section covers presentation of work, design boards and fashion illustration.
- Knitting section covers seam joins, necklines, collars and pockets.
- General section covers calculating a pattern, Japanese symbols and charts, and using a charting device.
- 1st Craft assessment - Cardigan/jacket with fastenings and set-in sleeves.
Module 4
- Design section covers 'Texture' and explores Texture using a number of design techniques.
- Knitting section covers punch cards and punchcard design, Fair Isle and intarsia.
- General section covers Repeat patterns and transferring drawings to stitch related graph paper.
- 2nd Craft assessment - Free choice garment.
Module 5
- Design section covers 'Shape' and explores Shape using a number of design techniques.
- Knitting section covers tuck stitch, slip stitch and knitweave.
- General section covers collecting a resources file, a Museum/exhibition visit report and designing for different figure types.
- 3rd Craft assessment - Garment or item mainly worked in knitweave.
Module 6
- Design section covers 'Form' and explores Form using both 2D and 3D techniques.
- Knitting section covers open fabrics, transfer lace and decorative features.
- General section covers notes/articles on Designer/Makers in knitting and notes on fashion trends relating to knitting.
- 4th Craft assessment - Garment or item mainly worked in an open fabric.
