Machine Knitting Workshops
As well as group workshops I can offer individual tuition on various aspects of machine knitting.
Open fabric using manual techniques.
There are quite a few ways to create an open fabric using a knitting machine. This workshop focuses on some of the manual techniques that can be used e.g. ladders, long stitch, wave stitch and manual transfers with ladders.
Open fabrics using patterning facilities.
Felted Knitting and Needle Felting
A variety of items can be made from knitting that has then been felted in a washing machine. Individual items can be knitted or lengths of fabric can be produced quickly and easily. The felted fabric can be made into garments, accessories or items of soft furnishing. During the workshop we will also look at shibori felting and embellishing knitted and/or felted fabric with needle felting.
Slip Stitch techniques
The slip stitch setting on a single bed knititng machine can be used to produce a variety of fabrics as well as allowing the knitter to make a free pass across the needlebed. In this workshop we look at textured stitches, 2-colour slip stitch patterns, mosaic slip stitch, 3-colour in a row slip stitch and how the setting can also be used for shaping in some circumstances.
This workshop focuses on using one punchcard and knitting it in as many varaitions as possible. Students are encouraged to explore their chosen card in terms of colour and texture as well as different stitch techniques.
Learn to Knit
This is a series of workshops covering all the basic techniques needed to produce a well finished garment. The course covers casting on, casting off, tension swatches, increases, decreases, neck shaping, the use of holding position, bands and edgings and sewing up your garment.
Creative Machine Knitting
Many machine knitters would like to explore various techniques, different materials and combining knitting with other craft skills but do not necessarily want to undertake a 2 year City and Guilds course. This course has been designed to meet their needs.
During the course students will have the opportunity to explore more advanced machine knitting techniques, work with unusual materials and combine their knitted fabrics with other crafts e.g. felting, embroidery or collage.
As an experienced machine knitting tutor I can offer workshops on various aspects of machine knitting. Workshops can be tailored to the requirements of each group or club.
